The visits in honour of Father Matteo Ricci will take place on 27th and 29th October during the President's tour of China

Tuesday 19th October, 2010.

The Italian President, Giorgio Napolitano, has confirmed that on the 29th October he will attend the exhibition in Macao dedicated to Father Matteo Ricci and organized by the Marche Regional Council. The President will also visit Father Matteo Ricci's tomb in the Zhalan cemetery Beijing on 27th October as a guest of the dignitaries of the Administrative College, a delegation from which recently visited Macerata.

These two engagements have been included in the programme of the Head of State's official visit to China to take place at the end of October.   The forthcoming trip was first announced on 7th October when China's Prime Minister, Wen Jiabao, was in Rome.

'We are very proud',   said Gian Mario Spacca, Head of the Regional Council, 'the President's visit is a mark of great esteem for a cultural event that is contributing to strengthening our ties with China in the year that celebrates 40 years of diplomatic relations between Italy and the People's Republic of China.

The exhibition "Matteo Ricci. The Meeting of Cultures in China under the Ming Dynasty", organized by the Marche Regional Council and the Committee for the Celebration of the IV Centenary of the Death of Father Matteo Ricci, opened in Macao on 7th August, 2010 after touring Beijing, Shanghai and Nanjing.

The exhibition has received great public and critical acclaim. This is a moment of great vitality in the history of relations between the two countries especially as in Italy 2010 is Chinese Culture Year.
